Who is God?
This brings to mind a song called "My God is an Awesome God" by Rich Mullins. God is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega, and he is everywhere. This concept might be hard for you to accept in the beginning because it is a huge thought. How can something, or someone be the beginning and the end or everywhere? Yet, God is everywhere.
God is who created the universe and everything in it. In the bible Genesis 1:1 it states that he created the heavens and the earth. Even if we stop there and he did nothing else, that would be an awesome, indescribable accomplishment. Just think of the creativity behind forming the mountains, the rivers, rain, clouds, snow, trees, air, the sun and the moon etc. Looking out your front door to view a clear morning or a glowing sunset you get a calming sensation that God is in control and if he can bring to life these events there is nothing he cannot do.
If you go past the creation aspect that includes the beauty, love and admiration he has for this place and the creatures within it (including us) you move on to his ability to forgive us for our faults (sins). Since he is not only God the creator but also God the father he loved us enough to create us, provide for us and when we disobeyed he forgave us making a way for us to be with him in heaven. To do this he gave us Jesus, his only son.
Jesus wasn't just a son, a man or a carpenter but he is the only way we can go to heaven. To read more about Jesus, there are countless stories about his works and teachings in the books of the bible Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. In John 3:16 it states that "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (NIV) God is a loving God who even when we disobeyed his rules, he gave us Jesus. Only a heavenly father would send his only son to a world full of sinners to save them.
God is the creator of this world, universe and all the creatures but he is also a father who guides us each day even when we turn our back on him by whispering in our ear that he loves us.
